Hello all -

Looking for some advice or insight. I know the electron club is a diverse group so fire away if any of you have any thoughts but perhaps someone may know of an appropriate *nix forum for this as well? Google hasn't given me a whole lot to play with.

I'm trying to capture frame grabs from usb/fire wire web cams via a bash script. So far I've run across this CLI app called VideoScript which looks promising. I know I could use PD to do such a thing, but the rest of my work flow is shaping up to be neatly wrapped up in one shell script.

I'm not as familiar with PD as I might like but I don't believe that I can control it strictly from the command line. - If you know otherwise I'd be happy to be corrected.

VideoScript (http://www.videoscript.com/) has some interesting features but also some serious drawbacks:
The free version only will capture jpgs at 50% quality.
The full version is $300
It hasn't seen an update or revision since 2005

Thoughts? I'd be even happier for something that worked with DV firewire steams (a wholly different data stream then firewire web cams) but finding something that did that seems even more of a stretch.

Cheers,

Ben Rush
