The manufacturers could make the projector sense when the unit had not<br>
been receiving a signal for a given time then switch itself off, but<br>
that wouldn't be good for profits at all.<br>

There are some rather neat projectors that use a fairly standard 150W<br>
metal halide lamp which not only lasts for about 5000 hours, but costs<br>
about 40 quid to replace.<br>
