It just so happens that I'm a member of the Barcamp Glasgow group on LinkedIn. There is some contact information there for the director of one of the companies organising the event. I mentioned this to Paola off - list, and it was suggested that I contact the director directly with the concerns raised here.

I agreed as I wasn't all that impressed with how un-barcamp like the event appeared. On further reflection, I'm not all that comfortable speaking for other people. I'm also not clear on what what the desired result from the correspondence would be.

Instead, I'd like to make him aware of the discussion here by pointing to the link of the archive of the mailing list, and invite him join the list to post a response if he so desires.

Any objections to this approach?

If nobody else picks up on this I will pursue accordingly
Are you aware of other instances where Barcamp name is tagged onto non barcamp events?
(i wonder if it happens regularly)

I think it would be good practice to avoid such confusion, should nobody else pick up on this, I will

Difficult however to know who to contact, need to dig up from companies house who are the directors of the
company are etc
Hi Paola,

It just looks like a regular corporate event with the barcamp name tagged
onto to it. I notice it says "BarCamp 2010" rather than barcamp itself so
is probably some kind of psuedo-branding they are using.

I would suggest you just contact them yourself first of all and see what
they say.
best wishes
