I think the Electron Club is in a pretty unusual (and lucky) situation.<br>

Like Bob said, A few years ago the CCA approached a group of<br>
like-minded people to see if we were interested in using a the small<br>
space in the corner of the CCA. The jist of it was: They gave us use<br>
of the space, electrics, internet connection, some furniture, and some<br>
older computers to use. We could do pretty much anything we wanted,<br>
provided that a) it wasn't illegal and, b) was in some way publicly<br>
available.<br>

The rest was determined by the group. We made up a few more rules<br>
that about how the organisation would work, what it was for, and what<br>
kinds of activities were a no-no. That was it. The Electron Club was<br>
born!<br>
<br>
I think the only reason the CCA can justify donating the space to us&<br>
losing the rental income for the office space is that the EC hosts<br>
regular, free events that could be considered "Community Outreach".<br>
(Or whatever you want to call it.) So, in exchange for a the loss of a<br>
little rental income, the CCA gets a gaggle of motivated volunteers<br>
that do all sorts of interesting things for free that the CCA can lay<br>
claim to supporting. It can only help their applications for funding,<br>
and support. That's why it's so important to keep the room full and<br>
busy as much as possible.<br>

Use it or lose it, so the saying goes.<br>
<br>
I hope that sheds a little light on the conditions the EC operates under.<br>
