John,<br><br>depending on the hardware configuration of your machine you could be experiencing this problem for various reasons. Some google searches of the ubuntu forum may be your best bet.<br><br>However one problem springs to mind. If you have an intel chipset (8xxxx) motherboard or are using an ATI card you may suffer from this:<br>

<div></div><div class="h5"><br>Well, in order to be any help you're going to have to provide some more information.<br><br>What sort of mouse is it? (USB/PS2)? Wireless?<br>Does your keyboard work or is that also frozen?<br>
If it is working try pressing the escape key then moving the mouse.<br>If your keyboard is working and the escape trick doesn't work open up a new shell (ctrl + alt + f2) and see if dmesg or /var/log/messages sheds any light on the problem.<br>
