<br><br>So i'm now starting to talk with people about putting on an event here in Edinburgh next early Spring called "FOSS4GG", where the extra G stands for Government (and the rest ostensibly stands for Free and Open Source Software for Geography).<br>

I'd like to see open data and microlocal strands in this too.<br>
Need to figure out which mailing list to use (<a href="mailto:ok-scotland@lists.okfn.org" target="_blank">ok-scotland@lists.okfn.org</a> or <a href="mailto:scotland@lists.osgeo.org" target="_blank">scotland@lists.osgeo.org</a>), pick a date and book the free space in Informatics/Inspace sooner rather than later.<br>

I do not think there is necessarily a push from anyone; more a desire<br>
among interested citizens to try and share with the public sector up<br>
here what is happening elsewhere, and thereby perhaps influence outcomes.<br>

Andrew - you may or may not know Ben Plouviez at the Scottish<br>
government. I was a civil servant working there from 2001 to 2008. Ben<br>
is aware that people outside (like us) are keen on the Open Data issue,<br>
and hopefully he may be able to assist with any future event.<br>

and give talk. Think England local & central govt is definitely ahead of<br>
Scotland -- have a look at the spending guidelines we've just published<br>
