Not only did it retain my windows install, it also produced an option to remove the ubuntu install. One other nice feature was that at the start of the install, ubuntu offered to import windows specific details such as my contacts and favorites... etc.<br><br>The s/w download manager was excellent too, and I am now primed to reverse engineer my bread board prototype design into a schematic.<br><br>The project, for anyone who is interested, is a usb controlled switch unit that uses RF to activates 240V appliances using voice commands. So far, I can turn on my main lights by saying 'lights', lamps on by saying 'lamps' and valve amplifier on by saying 'music on'. </div>Use the "Wubi" installer for Ubuntu. You don't even then need to create a<br>
separate partition - Linux is installed into a file on the windows partition;<br>
this is mounted as a loopback device when Linux is running.<br>

I've done this to check Ubuntu with a new laptop. The whole thing works like<br>
installing an application under windows. Removing it is than as hard as<br>
uninstalling that application, and the computer is returned to the state it was<br>
before.<br>
