I've had similar issues myself with Windows 8 and UEFI.
I managed to get dual boot running, but only on Ubuntu itself, not any fork
of it.
The Ubuntu installer doesn't give the option to directly install alongside
Windows 8 automatically in most cases, so you'll need someone that's
comfortable partitioning the drive for swap, boot ect.
If you don't get anyone soon, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
